was try to create a new sense of urgency to see if there's a chance to put the big deal back together that he and speaker boehner were close to having this deal last week. but in many ways, this speech was almost oh post mortem, almost setting up the blame game for the fact that no big deal is going to happen. and no matter what happens here at the end of the day, the debt ceiling is going to go up. but nobody is going to be happy about the deal. i can tell you this, ann, i had a bunch of democrats that said to me, would have been a good speech to give two weeks ago. >> i know that he called for public activism, so much so that we hear the capitol hill websites were crashing last night because so many people were trying to e-mail their representatives. it looks like he spooked main street, jim? will he spook also wall street? >> no, not at all. wall street is calm. the markets are looking good today. we had a blip down in the indicators between 9:0 and about 9:20. they came right back. no one is buying the panic, the sky-rocketing interest rates scenario. >> that said, hedge funds are

-term deal. let's look for the big fix. the president says, luke, let's go for the big fix and now the republicans are going, wait a minute. what gives? luke. >> politics is the art of the possible. a lot of folks on capitol hill feel right now that a short-term solution is the only thing possible because of the eight-day time window that you mentioned. that being said, there are two very different plans which you talked about in the introduction which are going through capitol hill right now. speaker boehner plan is going to have an extension, which gets us through the wipter. i'm told that speaker boehner's going to brief his house republican conference at 2:00 p.m. about the details of that plan. won't get extremely specific. then for all intensive purposes it looks from discussions i've had with certain aides that you can see as early as wednesday a house of representatives votes on speaker boehner's plan. harry reid is going to go his own way with a $2.7 trillion reduction plan across the board. both of these contessa are different than any of the grand bargains. reid's extend

opponents. from everything i've been reading trying to keep up with all of this, the big difference here from the democrats' side there's no mention of revenue increases, correct? >> huge concession from democrats. the whole time democrats say there must be revenue on the table, republicans say they can't be. now democrats are dropping that huge demand. here is what supporters would say. this plan gets it done. they would say we're out of time. we're in the going to push for all of our demands anymore. we are backing down in the interest of the country. that's what democrats will say. republicans say, wait a minute, we think this is a setup. we don't think these spending cuts do as much as you say. he don't believe $1 trillion in war money is necessarily real. we also think this doesn't do enough long-term. they say this is not as hefty as democrats claim. does that make sense? >> sure. let me point something out, though. we know harry reid said something that made us wonder, talking about the tea party influence in the different debates and discussions. take a listen and i'll pose a que

hoping for a big drenching. think of texas almost like a hot pizza oven and all we did was throw a napkin in it. this storm dissipated faster than almost any storm i've seen before. it didn't even go into the mountains and dissipate, it literally evaporated as it moves over brownsville. you can see it on the satellite imagery. it was the big red blob, and as soon as it got to the dry land in texas, poof. all of a sudden, don was gone. so not good news down there. the storm system is -- what's left of it, circulation is going to head for mexico anyway so it looks like just scattered showers and storms in texas during the day today. we'll take what we can get, but this wasn't the answer we were hoping for. there's not a lot of wet weather on the map, there are showers in missouri, also showers in the northern plains. your forecast for today, rain likely more or less in mexico, not texas. hot weather for dallas once again. warm and sunny in the northeast. as we go into the sunday forecast, we should see a lot of thunderstorms in the midatlantic and monsoonal showers and storms continue aroun
